Playtech is a leading B2B supplier of online gaming software. It is continuing its US expansion with the entry into a fourth regulated iGaming state, West Virginia. To do so, it is partnering with a few operators in West Virginia.

The focus for Playtech is on delivering innovative and responsible entertainment to players. It offers its partners the latest in gaming technology and provides agile and scalable solutions so they can meet the demands of the ever-growing US gaming industry. Playtech has an excellent global reputation, and its expansion into West Virginia means players will have access to top-quality content and safe gaming.

    Playtech partnership and revenue

Playtech is already active in several US states through its partnerships with online casinos, such as Play Gun Lake in Michigan. In 2024, it launched in Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Its partners have access to a range of RNG slot games, table games, and live content.

These strategic partnerships and new launches in different states have allowed Playtech to significantly increase its revenue year over year. In 2024, the company saw a 10% revenue increase, largely due to the growth in the US and Canada.

    Playtech enters West Virginia

West Virginia was the fifth US state to legalize online gambling, and there are currently nine online casinos operating in the state. Playtech is cooperating with the largest gaming companies in West Virginia and plans to connect with other licensees in the months to come.

Players in West Virginia will now be able to enjoy popular slot games such as Age of the Gods and Fire Blaze. Licensed games based on well-known franchises such as Gladiator and The Walking Dead will also be available. Playtech now covers four of the seven US states where online gaming is regulated. Its engaging portfolio of casino games that are already popular for other players worldwide will now be accessible to West Virginia players.

    West Virginia online gaming statistics

In 2024, the West Virginia Lottery Commission reported that online casino revenue in the state was just over $160 million and up 32% from the previous year. The most popular games were video slots, which accounted for about 70% of the turnover.

With new providers, such as Playtech, predictions are that total online gambling revenue could reach $200 million by the end of this year. The tax revenue from online gambling could give a welcome boost to the West Virginia economy.

Playtech’s entry into West Virginia is another indication of its ongoing commitment to supporting official regulators and offering powerful technology and high-quality content. It is taking an increasingly important role in the fast-growing US online gambling market.

    Licensing deal with IGT

IGT is currently the holder of the largest portfolio of slot game feature patents in the US. A licensing deal with IGT now allows Playtech to offer games that use these patented features.

That reveals Playtech’s vision to partner with leading companies and to use its scale to increase its distribution capabilities in North America. It wants to keep offering more of its market-leading software and technology. IGT says that the partnership with Playtech will help propel its growth and lead to even more innovation.

    Future expansion

At present, various states in the US are considering legislation. Playtech is likely to consider expanding into several other jurisdictions as they start legalizing online gambling. States that are closest to doing so include Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Delaware. There could also be strong future potential in major markets such as New York.
